Monthly Review: September 2022

What I read

  1. Everything is F*cked by Mark Manson

  2. Brave New World by Aldous Huxley

  3. The Happiest Man on Earth by Eddie Jaku

  4. Currently reading: Book Lovers by Emily Henry, Digital Minimalism by Cal Newport, Writing Without Bullshit by Joshua Bernoff

I purchased a couple of graphic novels at Drawn & Quarterly’s bookstore in Montreal, and I’m excited to dig into these soon!

What I watched

I finished Extraordinary Attorney Woo, and it is indeed one of the best Korean TV shows I’ve watched.

I’m a big Jubilee fan and watched all of the videos on their new channel, Nectar. This new channel focuses on content about dating and love. I’m here for it!

My favourite reality shows are back! I’ve caught up on all the episodes of The Amazing Race, and will catch up on the newest season of Survivor the next chance I have.

What I listened to

All the Lonely People” on The Arthur Brooks Show. Other than that, the first two books in my read list were audiobooks.

What I focused on

Being disconnected and present. My family spent half of September vacationing in Montreal and Quebec City. I didn’t bring my work laptop or spend a lot of time on my phone. The last one was out of necessity as I had to focus on my kiddos. I enjoyed exploring those two cities, and I’d go back to visit in a heartbeat!

What I’ve been thinking about

Passing on Tagalog to my kiddos. Being in Quebec, where most people are bilingual in French and English, showed me that it’s my responsibility to share the Tagalog language and Filipino culture to my kids. If that’s what I want, then I need to make the effort to speak to them in Tagalog.
